Craft Cadence MagSafe iPhone Mount

I’ve tried a number of phone mounts for use on my indoor trainer over the years – I’ve got a Tacx SweatVest with a built-in phone pouch and most recently, I’ve used a rubber mount that attached to the corners of your phone and has a Garmin mount of the back to clip onto your handlebars.

While all of these have worked, I wasn’t really satisfied with any of them, so when I saw Craft Cadence’s MagSafe phone mount, I jumped at the change to get one.

As readers of this blog will know, I’m a big fan of Apple’s MagSafe technology. What is it?- well, basically it’s a ring of magnets that line up with a matching ring on your phone and hold the phone in place for things such as wireless charging, or, in this case, as a mount.

The device comes ready to be assembled. It consists of a Garmin male mount, a GoPro adaptor and a three-part arm with a MagSafe magnet on the end. The GoPro mount attaches to the Garmin mount with a couple of Allen key bolts, and the arm attaches to the GoPro mount with a thumb screw, providing some of the adjustability in the angle of the mount, along with the other sections of the arm.

It also comes with a self-adhesive magnetic ring, in case your phone isn’t MagSafe or the case isn’t. It’s worth noting that you need a specific MagSafe case to use a MagSafe mount, even if your iPhone model has MagSafe.

Once assembled, the mount clips into the Garmin mount on your bike. Your iPhone attaches to the MagSafe magnet, either in portrait or landscape, depending on the app you’re using. I use it with Zwift Companion, while using the main Zwift app on a monitor in front of my bike. It’s perfect for navigating the roads within Zwift, and for dish out out the ‘Ride Ons‘. It also positions your phone out of the way of any dripping sweat.

My only complaint is that the thumb-screw needs to be REALLY tight to stop the phone from slowly sagging in use.

Scope for improvements? Well, not much really – maybe a USB connection and a MagSafe charging coil in the mount? 😂

The mount costs £28.99 for the Garmin version, and £29.99 for the Wahoo version, with a different mount.
