CamelChops HUMP Top-Tube Bag Review: A Cyclist’s Hands-On Experience
My old top tube bag had started to fall apart – shortly before Christmas, the zip broke, so it was time for a replacement.
I was really happy with the CamelChops Blimp bar bag I bought last year, so went back to them for a top tube bag. I settled on their HUMP model, and despite being available in a huge range of fabric designs and colours, I went for plain, boring black!
As CamelChops’ products are made to order, the bag took a couple of weeks to arrive, perfectly packaged.
Specifications
Externally, the bag measures 25 cm long, 10 cm high at the front and 5 cm wide with a single zip. There’s a small zipped pocket on the side. The side panel fabric is reinforced with stiffeners to prevent the bag from sagging. There are two straps under the bag to secure it to the top tube, and there’s an elastic strap to wrap around the head tube to hold the front of the bag in place. The bag is available with screw fixings for frames that supports that – my Planet-X Tempest doesn’t.
Storage Capacity
It’s big enough to hold an average-sized phone, in my case an iPhone 13 in a case. However, I don’t think it would fit anything much larger, such as a Max-sized iPhone.
The small pocket on side won’t hold anything too thick. I’m using it for spare contact lenses and shifter batteries (oh, and a coin to open the shifter cover!)
Performance
In use, the bag performs well. However, it does need to be firmly strapped in place to prevent it from moving and rubbing against my knees.
Conclusion
All in all, I’m very happy with the HUMP top tube bag, and I’d have no hesitation in recommending CamelChops if you’re in the market for a bag for your bike. They have a wide range of designs and models available in numerous fabrics and colours.
