Visit to TCR 2013

Earlier this month, I visited the Triathlon Show (formally the TCR Show), held at Sandown Park, near London. I was in Leicester for the following week at NSConference, so I flew down a day earlier to attend.

I’ve been to the show a number of times in the past, but I found this year’s show a bit disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the large number of wetsuit companies exhibiting. Huub had a big stand, just at the entrance, highlighting their recent link up with the Brownlee brothers. All the other big players, such as 2XU and Speedo (on the Wiggle stand) were all there. There were also quite a number of nutrition companies represented, including SIS, High5 and CliffBar. It was the ideal opportunity to try the different products for taste – after all, you’re not going use your sport nutrition if you don’t like the taste.

Missing this year seemed to be a number of shops who, in the past, have had stands selling general stuff. This was one of the main reasons I attended.

I also discovered that ownership of the show has moved to the company behind 220 Triathlon magazine, so the show may get a new lease of life next year.

Shortly after xmas, I ordered a new bike box for our trip to Lanzarote. Previously, I’d used a Trico Iron Case, which had served its purpose well, but I wasn’t confident that it’s packing method wouldn’t damage my new Felt Z3. Basically, in the Trico, the wheels lie on top of the frame, separated by…

  • Suie Classic

On Sunday, I took part in the Suie Classic, an 87km ride that’s part of the Great Inverurie Bike Ride (GIBR). The GIBR’s been on the go for a number of years, as a 25 mile ride – I’ve done it a number of times as part of a work team or with friends. Last…

  • Run Garioch 10k 2017

Not the performance I’d hoped for. I’ve completed this race a few times in the past, with a course best of 52:47, albeit on a slightly different route. The weather was nice on the day – sunny, but a bit cool – ideal running weather. The route starts at the Garioch Sports Centre, then passes…

  • Fare Challenge Half-Marathon

On Sunday, I ran my first half-marathon for nine years, the Fare Challenge. The event is an off-road race, held on the Hill of Fair at Raemoir, near Banchory, in Aberdeenshire. It was also the first time I’d raced off-road. There were 5k, 10k and half-marathon distance events on at the same time, all of…

  • Fraserburgh Half-Marathon

Yesterday, I ran the Fraserburgh Half-Marathon. This was my first road half since 2007 – I’d originally wanted to do the Crathes half, but, as usual, I waited too long to enter and it was full. My primary aim was to break the 2 hour barrier, or at least to be close to my last…
