2016 Roundup

It’s been a bit quiet here recently, mainly as I didn’t race for all of 2016 – this wasn’t really intentional, just how things worked out. I was too late signing up for some races, and others were cancelled for this year. I’ve still biked and ran as much as ever, and probably swam the most I have for a long time.

Anyway, I’ve set some targets for this year, including the Inverness Marathon in September, my first attempt at this distance. To kick-start the year, I’m off the Joe Beer’s Training Camp in Lanzarote soon.

Shortly after xmas, I ordered a new bike box for our trip to Lanzarote. Previously, I’d used a Trico Iron Case, which had served its purpose well, but I wasn’t confident that it’s packing method wouldn’t damage my new Felt Z3. Basically, in the Trico, the wheels lie on top of the frame, separated by…

On Sunday, I took part in the Suie Classic, an 87km ride that’s part of the Great Inverurie Bike Ride (GIBR). The GIBR’s been on the go for a number of years, as a 25 mile ride – I’ve done it a number of times as part of a work team or with friends. Last…

The King of the Mountain Sportive is organised by a local cycling club, Deeside Thistle. There are three options; 100 miles, 100 km or 25 miles. I took the 100 km option. This would be the furthest I’d ridden for a long time, certainly since my days of living in the Netherlands in the early…

  • Westhill Triathlon 2014

On Sunday, I took part in the MPH Westhill Triathlon. This was my first triathlon for a couple of years – in fact, I was starting to wonder if I could still call myself a triathlete! I’d opted for the short distance (400 m swim/16 km bike/3.2 km run) instead of the sprint distance which…
